If you’ve been with your boyfriend for a very long time and are wondering if he’s ever going to propose, we feel your pain.  We know what you’re going through right now, and our Los Angeles matchmakers are here to show you what the holdup is.

Getting married is something most women dream of their whole lives.  They fantasize about their diamond rings, wedding dresses, cakes, and honeymoons.  However, men aren’t as enthusiastic about getting married.  Though the idea of getting married is very important to them, the whole process isn’t as exhilarating as it is for you.

So you’ve been dating this wonderful guy for some time now and he’s perfect.  He’s clearly not seeing anyone else and is 100% devoted to you.  So why hasn’t he popped the question?  Today, our Los Angeles matchmakers will show you five reasons why he’s dragging his feet.

1. He doesn’t believe in marriage.

Finding out that the man you’ve been dating for a very long time doesn’t have the same views on marriage as you can definitely be a hard pill to swallow.  Maybe you never had the talk with him and assumed he wanted to get married because the two of you were exclusive.  But marriage isn’t for everyone.

Some men just don’t see the point in getting married.  If you’ve never had the talk with him and want to know why he hasn’t popped the question, then all you need to do is ask.  If you’ve hinted everything and nothing’s worked, then it’s time to sit him down and talk to him about it.  Why waste your time with a guy who will never give you what you want?  You deserve true happiness.

2. He’s influenced by his friends.

Are all of his friends bachelors who do nothing but party all the time?  Do they make gestures when the two of you kiss in public?  Is he easily influenced by what his friends do?  If his ideas, attitudes, and behaviors come from his friends, then his friends might be the reason why he hasn’t gotten down on one knee.

We all value the opinions of our close friends, but they shouldn’t stand in the way of how he feels for you.  If his friends have that much influence in your relationship, then it’s time to have a talk with your boyfriend about his priorities.

3. He’s changing his life.

Maybe your boyfriend has a bad habit he wants to fix.  Maybe he is starting to attend church more often.  Perhaps he’s giving up drinking or smoking.  Sometimes men feel like they need to fix their mistakes before they settle down in a marriage.  If it’s taking him a long time to propose, then he might be trying to better himself so you can have the husband you always dreamed of, which is awesome news for you.

4. It’s just too soon.

Let’s face it, many women dream about getting married their whole lives.  Sometimes women put a lot of pressure on themselves and rush the relationship along.  We get it, as matchmakers, we know that you want your perfect wedding with your dream man.  But guess what?  Maybe your boyfriend doesn’t want to get married just yet.  He’s knows you’re perfect and that you’ll eventually be the one for him, but he doesn’t want to rush it along.  If you suspect this is the case, ease up on the marriage talk and let him come around on his own time.

5. He’s been down this road before.

Divorce is not easy for either sex.  It’s hard when the marriage you thought would last forever comes crashing down.  And it’s even harder to think about getting married again.  As much as you wish you could walk down the aisle tomorrow, your boyfriend might be fearful of doing it again.  It will take divorced men a little bit longer to come around—and for good reason.  Be patient, he will get down on one knee all in due time.

Just because his hand is a little slow to pull the trigger doesn’t mean your boyfriend won’t get down on one knee.  Go ahead and keep fantasizing about your dream wedding and hopefully it will happen for you soon.
